Hebridean Connections is an ambitious project being undertaken by the Comunn Eachdraidh of Uig, Bernera, Pairc & Kinloch. It aims to collate their comprehensive collections of historical data and create a powerful, visually attractive & user-friendly data search service for visitors and ‘virtual visitors’. The project is the result of four years hard work by these Comunn Eachdraidh and it is greatly encouraging for them to now see the project becoming a reality.
Hebridean Connections is an exciting, pioneering web project that will offer easy, in-depth access to the rich cultural heritage of Pairc, Kinloch, Bernera and Uig on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, 30 miles off the North West coast of Scotland. You will be able to come to this website to see photographs, listen to sound files, and explore interactive maps of each of these four, unique island communities. At this moment, four dedicated Field Officers and a team of volunteers are working hard to digitise the extensive genealogical and historical archives of these areas, presenting them in an attractive, easily searchable and navigable web site. Whether you are native to Lewis, or you know, or believe you may have roots in the area, or even if you have simply happened upon this site by accident, we hope that you will come back to see the final article when Hebridean Connections goes live in 2006.
