Over a number of years Michael Robson of Ness, Isle of Lewis has assembled a unique collection of books, manuscripts and other valuable material on the history of communities in the island and other parts of Scotland. The collection has now been made available for consultation and research, housed in a new building in Ness. The Islands Book Trust has been formed to advise and promote use of the collection, both by the community and people from further afield. The collection falls in to three main categories:
The main aims of the Trust are to extend appreciation of the value of the collection to the Outer Hebrides, to establish and promote links with the Northern Isles and other Nordic areas and to encourage comparative studies, to advise and provide support to the collection and to raise funds to further these aims. Membership of the Trust is open to anyone who supports the aims of the Trust.
