The Harris Tweed Authority has announced the appointment of Lorna Macaulay from Keose in Lewis as its new Chief Executive.
A former pupil of The Nicolson Institute, Mrs Macaulay, who is currently Head of Developing Skills and Customer Service with Highlands & Islands Enterprise in Stornoway, studied Distribution with Fashion Merchandising in Glasgow before taking up posts with the Western Isles Council, the Western Isles Health Board and Western Isles Enterprise

Donald Martin, chairman of the HTA, commented “We are delighted to have been able to appoint Lorna to this very important post. From a field of five exceptional candidates, Lorna’s leadership experience and wide range of skills in operational and strategic management impressed the Selection Panel.

“Lorna will be taking up her post in May and the Authority is looking forward to her joining us, following a gap of six months without a Chief Executive.”

Mrs Macaulay said: “I am looking forward to the challenge of working with the HTA and the stakeholders in the industry. I firmly believe that recent developments in the industry bode well for the future of Harris Tweed and I feel very privileged to be given the opportunity to play my part in shaping that future.”

Outwith her work, Lorna is actively involved in the community as a Director of the Erisort Trust, a long serving member of the Western Isles Childrens’ Panel and Chairperson of Sgoil nan Loch Parent Council.
