South Lochs man receives MBE

Donnie Morrison from Habost received his MBE from Prince Charles at a ceremony in Buckingham Palace in November.

Donnie received his MBE in recognition of the 'tremendous work' he has done in the Western Isles within the ITC sector.

Mr Morrison is employed by Western Isles Enterprise as Senior Executive, Global Connections.

Mr Morrison commented: "It was a lovely day and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It was quite an interesting experience.
"I was presented with my MBE by Prince Charles and and he told me how much he loved the Western Isles, and he mentioned Berneray in particular. I was down there for three days and it was a lovely experience."

Mr Morrison was born in Gravir and educated at the Nicolson Institute and Lews Castle College before taking up a job in electronics in Glasgow.
Mr Morrison returned to the island with his wife Anne, where he managed the Western Isles ICT Advisory Service based in Habost, Lochs. The service brought the first teleworking contracts to Uist and Barra in 1994.

Donnie, who has settled in Habost with his New Zealand-born wife, Anne, is now part of the Global Connections Team at Western Isles Enterprise, focusing on bringing new opportunities into the Western Isles.
He is also Project Manager of the Connected Communities Broadband Network being built across the Western Isles — one of the most advanced wireless broadband networks in any rural location in the UK.

Mr Morrison added: "I am very pleased to be recognised and honoured for work which I really enjoy.
"This is very much a team effort as none of the work I have done could have, by itself, resulted in the many outcomes we have achieved.
